Hoax: The procedure for getting a dental implant is quite difficult.
Truth: The procedure for getting a dental implant is not difficult.
The method is actually only two or three steps long. Although receiving dental implants can take months, this timeline may give the idea that the procedure is difficult, but in fact it really only involves two or three steps.
That is approximately as many steps as a dental crown can require!
First, the titanium metal rods that serve as your new tooth roots are inserted into your jaw by your dentist during your initial visit. This is where healing takes up a large portion of the time required to have a dental implant. In order for the jawbone to grow around your new tooth roots and hold them firmly in place, you need time to recuperate between procedures, especially after the first one. Although it may take a few months, the long-term benefits make the wait worthwhile!
Second, the metal components that will support your tooth restorations, known as abutments, must then be positioned onto your implants. Your dentist may be able to shorten the duration of your treatment by doing this during your initial appointment. You will have to wait a few weeks for your gums to recover if it is done as a stand-alone surgery.
Three, you are prepared to visit our office one last time to have your restoration placed and finish your exquisitely restored smile after the abutments are in place and you have fully recovered.
