Zirconia restorations show promise in dental restorations, but porcelain veneers often break, accounting for 3.4% of failures. Adhering to clinical guidelines can reduce the incidence of veneering ceramic fractures.

Breakage of porcelain veneer

In clinical dentistry, metal-ceramic restorations are the most prevalent kind. Patients' increasing aesthetic demands over time have prompted physicians to concentrate on all-ceramic restorations. Zirconia restorations show promise, and the material is even being utilized for direct veneering for screw-retained prostheses or for the fabrication of implant abutments for cement-retained restorations.

Another frequent issue with single-implant restorations is the veneering ceramic breaking. At a mean follow-up of five years, Sadid-Zadeh et al. found that 172 of the 5052 ceramic and porcelain fused to metal restorations failed because they chipped off, accounting for 3.4% of the problems. By adhering to clinical guidelines, which include lowering the occlusal table, avoiding heavy occlusal contacts, maintaining shallow cuspal heights, and providing sufficient thickness of the covering ceramic, the incidence of veneering ceramic fracture can be decreased.
