The study found no significant bone loss after three months of crowning, and no implant displayed peri-implant radiolucency during the follow-up period.

Hi-Tec implant restoration in the mandibular first molar region (6)

author: Andreas Tjandra | publisher: drg. Andreas Tjandra, Sp. Perio, FISID

Clinical and radiographic observations: All 10 implants were inserted in the mandibular first molar area, with six on the right side (60%), and four on the left (40%). The size of the pre-selected implants varies. The diameter of the implants varied from 3.3mm to 4.2mm, with a mean diameter of 3.66mm for men and 4.11mm for females (p=0.007). [Table/Fig-11]. The implant length varied from 10mm to 13mm, with a mean of 10.9mm for men and 12.4mm for females (p=0.02). [Table/Fig-11]Bleeding on probing occurred in one patient (10%) during the first month of loading due to prosthesis loosening, which resolved once the crown was cemented. At the third month after crown cementation, none of the patients had blood on probing. The probing depth values obtained for all ten patients at the first and third months and subsequent follow-up after loading were consistent and well within the normal range (1 to 3mm), with a mean value of 1.8mm and a standard deviation of 0.78 [Table/Fig-12]. Even after six years of follow-up, no one exhibited substantial alterations to indicate implant failure.

With mean values of 0.95mm on the mesial side and 0.82mm on the distal side, the marginal bone levels at crown cementation varied from 0.5 to 2mm. After three months of crowning, the marginal bone loss was seen to range from 0 to 0.5 mm, with a mean of 0.13 mm on the mesial side and 0.15 mm on the distal side (p<0.05). However, it did not become significant throughout the following follow-up periods [Table/Fig-12, Table/Fig-13]. Using radiovisiographs (RVG) and standardized IOPA, the peri-implant radiolucency was evaluated. During the follow-up period, no implant displayed peri-implant radiolucency [Table/Fig-14].

Summary

Crown Cementation Study

  • Marginal bone levels at crown cementation ranged from 0.5 to 2mm.
  • Post-crowning, bone loss ranged from 0 to 0.5mm, with mean of 0.13mm on mesial side and 0.15mm on distal side.
  • No significant bone loss observed in subsequent follow-up periods.
  • Peri-implant radiolucency was evaluated using radiovisiographs and standardized IOPA.
  • No implant displayed peri-implant radiolucency during follow-up period.
